About The Language Research Symposium

The vision of the University Language Planning and Development Office (ULPDO) is to be the Centre of Excellence in the promotion, development and the scientification of indigenous languages with specific reference to isiZulu. This is achieved through a multi-pronged approach wherein a number of programmes are rolled out in response to the University Language Implementation Plan that accompanies the Language Policy. Given that this project coincides with the advent of the 4th industrial revolution, Human Language Technologies are at the center of this approach. ULPDO is proud to host its fourth one-day virtual Language Research Symposium. The Symposium will showcase advances in the development of isiZulu technological applications at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Academics and postgraduate students will present progress in the Language intervention initiatives in different Schools and Colleges. This will challenge the University’s capacity and commitment, in the development of isiZulu language
